There’s no point in the post other than to point out some weirdness that I found in the new products and announcements. You are welcome to reply with your own or despute mine.
- iPhone Air - not iPhone 17 Air. A hint at naming convention going forwards? Perhaps they are not planning on replacing it every year, perhaps the R&D needed is not sustainable. Weirdness scale 3/5
- New MagSafe Battery only available for iPhone Air - I understand that this is purely to mediate issues potential users might have. But why not just do it for all models? The batteries have increased on all models anyway, so perhaps Apple don’t think it’s needed? Weirdness scale 3/5
- TechWoven cases only for Pro phones - Remains to be seen how good they are, but it’s not available for any other model. Weirdness scale 2/5
- Video presentation look - For the whole video I got some uncanny valley going on. Many of the presenters looked air brushed and overly fake. The same allowance that you get from movies having to finish films when the actor has died or make them a different age. Some portions appeared as if it were generated by AI. Weirdness scale 5/5.
- The camera plateau - The overall look of the new pro phones is plain ugly. The full width bar was explained away by Apple as being for the antenna etc, but I just don’t understand why they wouldn’t move the cameras. I don’t believe the design when it leaked, and still can’t believe they would release a phone that looks like this. No wonder Jonny wants nothing more to do with them. Weirdness scale 5/5.
- Only Pro Feature is a telephoto lens - That’s not literally it, but it’s the only thing that feels like a difference. Anyone else think it’s a strange move from Apple, unless pro phones are due a considerable upgrade in the future? Weirdness scale 2/5.
