’Tis the season to Buy Things, apparently. So says every website in the world…Our faces are being smashed by sales. If you’re going to buy anything, I say buy books

I hate Black Friday. Prime Day is a close second. Every website turns into a hive-minded recommendation machine, stuffed with affiliate links and over-eager reviews of crap you don’t need. All so you can save 2%.

Buy books instead. Or games. Whatever it is, just buy it because you want to, not because a timer is counting down. Here’s my reading list and some recommendations. Affiliate link free.

Return of the Spider

After a bit of a break, Alex Cross is back, returning to a storyline you thought was dead and buried. A slightly different vibe this time, but I love these books and this one is no exception. Great read, a bit short, though.

Man's Search For Meaning

You see this recommended a lot. I was swayed by the reviews. Didn’t know much about it going in and found it a fascinating, depressing, and wonderful read all at the same time. I picked it up in paperback after getting the e-pub so I can read it and highlight it properly over the coming years.

Magic Pill

More of an insight into the motivations and myths around weight loss than I thought it would be. I’ve enjoyed many of Johann Hari's books, and this one follows a similar path. I learnt a lot from reading this.

Jony Ive: The Genius Behind Apple Products

I picked this up purely from an Apple perspective but found it fascinating to understand the journey Jony has been on. It allowed me to understand the Steve Jobs era of Apple much better, and gives context to his recent moves and motivations.

Do Hard Things & The Comfort Crisis

I read both of these back to back. They influenced a big change in my life towards the end of last year and helped me realise you can do hard things. The Comfort Crisis is the better of the two, and it is one of the few books I struggled to put down.

Shoe Dog

The story of Nike from inception to now. Obviously written from the point of victory, so it shouldn’t be used as an instruction manual for success. I loved reading this and demolished it in a couple of days because of all the twists and turns.

Born To Run

If you run, or are just interested in humans, this book is fantastic. Easily my favourite read of the last few years. I was genuinely sad to finish it. It played a massive part in me falling back in love with running. I can’t praise this book highly enough.

The Midnight Library

I’ve talked about this book a lot before. Some people don’t get it, which is fine, but it speaks to me in a way no other book has done before. If you haven’t read it yet, do it.
