The Bloke Who Is Tired
I am one week into two weeks off and I am bored out of my mind. I wrote in Never Satisfied that I don't know how to be a person who isn't in training, that I am just a bloke who is tired and I don't like him much. I have now spent a week with him and I was right.
I was looking forward to a couple of weeks to relax a little and recoup, as my body was really tired after the 70.3 and then the Robin Hood Half. Every plan I have ever followed has rest in it and I never want to do it. There are no sessions to tick off and no numbers to hit, and I have spent most of the week not knowing what to do with myself. It was the same after the Manchester Marathon, when I had nothing to work towards and ended up using my phone too much, eating too much and procrastinating about the things I did have to do.
My work and family life means I live out of my calendar, between hospital appointments for Lucie, Teams meetings with development teams and my training. I am a creature of habit and I love that it keeps me focused and grounded, but it can't be healthy, can it?
I should be able to have a fortnight off without feeling lost, and I have never been good at sitting still. I am writing this down so I can read it back the next time I am in the middle of a block and moaning about how tired I am. One more week and then it starts again.
